Privacy policy
Epoche keeps your training data on your phone. Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for ads. The optional features described below only send data when you turn them on or ask for them.
This policy covers the Epoche mobile app for Android and iOS. Epoche is developed by Shreyansh Tomar. For privacy questions, email shreyanshtomar98@gmail.com.
1. Data stored on your device
Your workouts, activities, food log, body measurements, photos, injuries, cycle and mind-session records are stored on your device. The developer does not receive them.
2. Optional Google sign-in and Google Drive backup
- You can sign in with Google. If you do, Epoche creates an account with Google Firebase (the developer's backend) and stores a profile there: your name, email address, profile photo address, an account ID, and the profile details you entered in the app (birth year, sex, city, region and country, units, weight goal, sessions per week and training experience), your offers consent, app version, platform and when you last opened the app.
- Your workouts, sets, measurements, food, health, cycle and route data are never part of this profile.
- Google Drive backup is optional and under your control. It uses the
drive.filescope, which only gives Epoche access to files it creates. Backups are written to your own Google Drive, not to a server run by the developer. - You can disconnect Google, or revoke Epoche's access, at any time in the app.
3. Health Connect (Android)
Epoche reads and writes only the Health Connect data types you grant permission for: exercise sessions, total calories burned, active calories burned, steps, distance, weight, heart rate and health data history. Epoche does not read health data you have not granted access to. Health Connect data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with third parties.
4. Location
Epoche uses precise location and, where you allow it, background location only while you are recording a walk, run, hike or other activity, so that it can draw your route and measure distance and pace. Routes are stored on your device. Location is not collected at other times, and routes are not sent to the developer or to any analytics service.
5. Optional crash and usage analytics
Crash reports and usage analytics are off by default. If you turn on Share usage data during onboarding or in Profile, Epoche sends the following to Expo's EAS Observe service:
- crash diagnostics and app performance timings;
- feature events such as "workout logged" or "activity recorded", with coarse values only (for example, whether a run used GPS);
- app version, platform, device model and operating system version;
- a random identifier created for each installation, which resets when app data is cleared or the app is reinstalled.
These events never include workouts, routes, health values, food, cycle data, photos, email addresses, names or free-text feedback. You can turn this off at any time in Profile. Analytics are currently not active on Android.
6. Camera and photos
Epoche uses the camera and photo library only when you add a photo, such as a profile picture or a workout or activity photo, or when you scan a food barcode. Photos stay on your device.
7. Third-party requests
- Open Food Facts. When you scan a barcode or search for a food that is not in Epoche's offline food data, the barcode number or search text is sent to Open Food Facts, a public food database. No account details or photos are sent.
- OpenFreeMap. When maps are on (Profile, on by default), the app requests map tiles for the area you are viewing from OpenFreeMap and its content delivery network. These requests reveal the area viewed and your IP address. Turn maps off in Profile to stop them. Tiles for saved routes are cached on your device.
- Google. Sign-in and Drive backup are handled by Google under Google's own privacy policy.
- Purchases. Epoche Pro is bought through Google Play. Purchase records and a random app user ID are processed by RevenueCat so that Epoche can unlock Pro on your devices. Payment details are handled by Google Play and are never seen by Epoche.
- Notifications. If you turn on "Offers & tips", a push token is stored in your Firebase profile so that Epoche can send them. Turning it off in Profile deletes the token.
Feedback is sent only when you choose to send it. It is stored in Firebase with your message, app version and platform, plus your email address and account ID if you are signed in, so the developer can reply.
8. Advertising and sale of data
Epoche contains no advertising. The developer does not sell personal data, does not share it for advertising, and does not use your training, food, health or location data for marketing.
9. Deleting your data
- Uninstalling Epoche removes the data stored on your device.
- You can delete your account from Profile → Account → Delete account in the app. This deletes your Firebase profile and account. See how to delete your account, including how to ask by email.
- Backups in your Google Drive are files you own; you can delete them from Google Drive. You can revoke Epoche's Google access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- To stop optional analytics, turn off Share usage data. Requests about analytics data can be sent to the contact address above.
10. Children
Epoche is not directed to children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this page with a new effective date.
